First Timer’s Guide
This guide contains a variety of general information about Ultra Australia in Melbourne and Sydney, and was compiled by the organizers of the event in an effort to, among other things, give you, our first-time attendees, a potential roadmap for your first experience at the event and make this experience as positive and safe as possible.
There are three basic types of tickets— GA (General Admission), VIP and Combo tickets. GA tickets are what the vast majority of attendees purchase. Every ticket allows access to every single stage and area of the event other than a few selected areas for VIP ticket-holders only. VIP tickets are a luxury option with enhanced amenities, such as dedicated bars and restrooms, elevated viewing platforms and exclusive festival entry. Combo tickets are for attendees looking to attend both days of Ultra Australia in Melbourne and Sydney.
Before the Purchase
Ticket sales begin far in advance of the event. Generally, the longer you wait to buy tickets, the more expensive they will be.
In order to have the option to purchase the lowest-priced tickets available, you must first sign up for Ultra Worldwide’s customer loyalty program, Ultra Passport. (Download the official Ultra Worldwide Mobile App to enroll). The program rewards our most dedicated attendees for their attendance at Ultra Worldwide events, and provides them an opportunity to explore our many destinations. Once you create (and verify) your Ultra Passport account, you will be able to register for the lowest-cost tickets available for Ultra Australia with one easy click. Approximately 1-2 days before these tickets go on sale, you will receive an email with purchase instructions. Be sure to follow the instructions in the registration email carefully to avoid unnecessary delays when purchasing your ticket(s).
Buying Your Tickets
TICKETS CAN ONLY BE PURCHASED FROM THE FOLLOWING OUTLETS: the official Ultra Australia website: UltraAustralia.com OR through an official Ultra Australia Ambassador either via a hard copy ticket or online through Moshtix.
Any time you purchase tickets from a third party (like a friend, a ticket-reselling website, ticket broker, etc.), you risk getting scammed. We do not describe the specific methods scammers use because we do not want to give anyone ideas, but each year we deal with some disappointed fans who did not listen to this warning and are stuck outside the event gates with fake or invalid tickets. Please do not be one of them.
When you click the link to buy tickets from the official website you will be taken to the event’s official ticket retailer — Eventbrite. From there, it is a simple process to purchase your tickets, but there are a few things you should keep in mind:
- At checkout there will be additional charges for service fees and booking fees depending on your location. These charges will be clearly indicated before you confirm your order total.
- Tickets can also be purchased through a series of payments with our Payment Plan option. Tickets purchased via this option allows customers to split the payment into four instalments. In order to be eligible for these payment plan tickets, you must make your initial deposit by December 12, 2018 as the second payment is due the following day.
After the Purchase
GA Tickets will be emailed in PDF format two weeks prior to the event dates. This measure is for security reasons and to avoid ticket scalpers. VIP ticket packages will be sent to the shipping address provided at checkout (customers are able to amend this address prior to the package shipping). VIP ticket packages will be shipped via express post in early January 2019.
Public transportation makes for easy access to and from the festival. Both cities, Melbourne and Sydney have their own methods of public transportation which are outlined below.
The most preferable option for traveling to the festival is via the Metro Train. The closest stop to the venue is Flemington. A train from either Flinders Street, Southern Cross or North Melbourne can directly reach the Flemington stop.
Visit here for more details.
Another favorable option for travelling to the festival is via the 57 tram. If arriving by tram the closest stops to the venue are listed below:
- 29-Flemington Racecourse/Racecourse Rd (Flemington)
- 30-Flemington Racecourse/Epsom Rd (Flemington)
- 31-Racing Victoria/400 Epsom Rd (Flemington)
For more information on tram departure times and frequencies, please visit here.
The easiest option for travelling to Parramatta Park from Sydney is via the train. The two stops closest to Parramatta Park are:
- Westmead Train Station (approximately a 5-minute walk to the venue)
- Parramatta Train Station (approximately a 15-minute walk to the venue)
When travelling from the city, people can also choose the option of using the bus. The Parramatta bus terminal is located next to the Parramatta train station on Darcy and Argyle Streets.

Both Melbourne and Sydney have a vast and varied portfolio of hotels that you may choose from. Whether you are coming from abroad or opting for a staycation, we recommend staying at the options below:
Whilst staying in Melbourne you may wish to stay at one of the hotels run by the Accor Group. The Accor Group has several hotels located across Melbourne and Flemington ranging across different budgets. In particular, the Ibis hotel is most convenient, for more information on the Ibis please click here.
For a more luxurious option, you may elect to stay at the Meriton Suites Parramatta or Skye Hotel Suites.
Ultra Australia features a large variety of electronic music performers. These artists are announced in groups called “phases.” “Phase 1” is the first lineup announcement followed by “Phase 2” and usually “Phase 3.” These phases are not to be confused with “Tiers,” which are used to distinguish ticketing options. “Phase” number simply refers to the order in which artists are announced, and has nothing to do with the day that an artist is playing. An exact schedule of performers is announced in advance of the event. We recommend using the Ultra Worldwide Mobile App to create your schedule. During the event, you will be notified 15 minutes prior to each scheduled artist’s performance, so you won’t miss a minute of the action.
Every single artist on the lineup will be scheduled to perform, in person, at the event. Usually the performances are DJ sets, where an artist mixes music on turntables for an extended period of time.
One of the biggest mistakes first-time attendees make is neglecting to explore the entire event. We go to great lengths to make sure that, no matter where you go or when, you will be able to listen to incredible talent.
Among one of the more important aspects of enjoying and attending the event is taking care of yourself. Since Australia is hot and humid, make sure to stay hydrated and be aware of where medical staff is available in case you or someone you know has a medical issue. Prior to the event, Ultra Australia will release the official site map. While this resource will point you in the direction of stages and food/drink options, it’s also important to use the site map to take note of where water stations and medical tents are located throughout the venue in case of emergency.
There are particular measures to attending the event and you should pay close attention because this information may dramatically improve your experience.
- Take note of what items are allowed and are not allowed into the event. Some prohibited items are obvious (no weapons, no illegal drugs, etc.) but some are less obvious. For example, event organizers do not allow normal backpacks that are not made of clear material (plastic, PVC, mesh). A full list of prohibited items, which may be updated based on new circumstances, issues, technologies and problems that may arise, can be found here and the clear bag policy can be found here.
- You won’t be able to re-enter the event if you leave. Don’t worry, everything you need can be found inside.
We look forward to seeing you at the very first Ultra Australia this coming February!
